Internship Position: Mechatronics Engineer

Job Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and recently qualified Mechatronics Engineer to join our team as an intern. This role involves assisting in the design, development, and prototyping of custom-built exhibits, interactive displays, and AV technology integrations. You will support the design, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems, develop modular solutions, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative concepts to life. The ideal candidate will have basic proficiency in CAD design, electrical systems, and fabrication techniques, ensuring that all projects are delivered to the highest quality standards, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development:

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of electrical systems and components for interactive exhibits and custom-built installations.
  • Support the creation of detailed CAD designs (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks) for electrical systems and other components, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure feasibility, modularity, and functionality of systems.

Fabrication & Prototyping:

  • Assist in the fabrication and prototyping of interactive components using various materials and techniques, including 3D printing, CNC routing, and metalwork.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for in-house or locally sourced manufacturing to minimize delays.

Technical Documentation & Testing:

  • Maintain detailed technical drawings and specifications for all designs, ensuring compliance with safety and industry regulations.
  • Implement standardized CAD libraries and design rules to improve efficiency and reduce design time.
  • Test electrical components and systems using CAD tools to identify potential failures, ensuring reliability before production.

User Experience & Interaction:

  • Assist in designing systems that offer engaging user interactions, increasing the ways in which visitors can interact with the exhibits.
  • Focus on creating accessible designs that cater to a wide range of users, including children and those with disabilities.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Act as the liaison between the production team, suppliers, and clients to ensure seamless communication and project alignment.
  • Work with project managers and other teams to troubleshoot issues, share knowledge, and ensure project goals are met.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies and fabrication techniques, proposing improvements to current designs and workflows.
  • Experiment with new materials, technologies, and components to enhance design efficiency and user engagement.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Recently qualified with a degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Basic proficiency in using CAD software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) to develop detailed design models and technical drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication processes such as 3D printing, CNC routing, carpentry, metalwork, and electronics integration.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks).
  • Experience in microcontroller programming and software development for interactive exhibits.
  • Understanding of fabrication methods (e.g., 3D printing, CNC, model making, etc.) and integration of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including sensors, touchscreens, and AV components.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for learning and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • Location: Hybrid (In-office with remote work flexibility).
  • Working Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to fabrication workshops or client locations may be required.

Company Culture: We are a passionate team committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology. Our company thrives on collaboration, innovation, and a shared mission to create meaningful and impactful visitor experiences. We value continuous learning and growth, and every team member is encouraged to bring their ideas forward and make a difference.
